Ways To Jazz Up Your Frozen Berry Mini Waffles

Berry mini waffles are one of those foods that sound so good that you're tempted to buy a whole large box. But after eating a few plates of them, they start to taste a little mundane and repetitive. You still like them, but you just wish there was a way to jazz them up. Luckily, there is! In fact, there are a few fun and easy ways you can add some variety to your berry mini waffles.

Top them with chocolate chips

Maybe you've been eating your waffles the traditional way: topped with butter and maple syrup. A good alternative is to skip these toppings and instead top your waffles with some chocolate chips. It's best to sprinkle them over the waffles while the waffles are still warm so that they melt. If you can find mini chocolate chips, those are even better since their small size allows them to melt more completely when sprinkled over your warm waffles.

Make a berry syrup

Another approach is to really play up and intensify the berry aspect of the waffles by making your own berry syrup. This is pretty simple to do and only takes a few minutes. You'll need:

  • 1 cup of your preferred berries
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • a sprinkle of cinnamon

Combine all of the ingredients except for the cornstarch in a small saucepan, and bring the mixture to a simmer. Let simmer for about 10 minutes. Stir in the cornstarch, and continue to simmer for an additional 2 minutes, or until thickened. Let cool slightly before pouring over your waffles.

Make chicken and waffles

Chicken and waffles is a classic southern dish, and you can make your own unique twist on it with your berry waffles. Instead of pairing the waffles with fried chicken, pair them with chicken that you have marinated and baked in a mixture of apple cider and honey. Drizzle the extra sauce over the chicken and the waffles. The sweetness is a lovely pairing with the berry flavor in the waffles. You can serve this for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, too!

Berry waffles are delicious enough on their own, but you can only eat so many with butter and syrup before they, like any food, begin to taste boring. If you kick them up a notch using the ideas above, you'll get more mileage and enjoyment out of those frozen mini berry waffles.
